The story of Guesthouse Haltinmaa

The village of Kilpisjärvi in Arctic Lapland is a haven for the holiday maker and a perfect destination to capture the true essence of Arctic lifestyle.

Kilpisjärvi on the Northern Lights Route

Once upon ancient times a simple trade route crossed Lapland from the Baltic Sea to the Arctic Ocean. Today it is an Arctic highway known as the Northern Lights Route.

The Northern Lights Route leads from the twin cities of Tornio and Haparanda all the way to Tromso and crosses the village of Kilpisjärvi, which is situated at the meeting point of three contries: Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Kilpisjärvi, soul landscape and a dream come true

There are few places that can match the spectacular scenery offered by Kilpisjärvi. The rugged Scandinavian mountain range and Finland’s highest summits create a unique panoramic landscape all year round.

Many travelers have discovered Kilpisjärvi and left behind a piece of their hearts. Others have followed their dream and established a life there. Among them is the founder and owner of Guesthouse Haltinmaa, Mrs. Satusisko Ahonen.

In her youth Satusisko chose a career in hospitality and the career path led her to work in many hotels and restaurants across Lapland. One of those places was a restaurant in the village of Kilpisjärvi. The village won her heart in more ways than one. She stayed, established a family and created a business of her own. Today Guesthouse Haltinmaa is known as the home of good food, good company and good times.
