How to reach Kilpisjärvi and Guesthouse Haltinmaa

Kilpisjärvi in Arctic Lapland, in the borderland of Finland, Norway and Sweden

The village of Kilpisjärvi is situated in the municipality of Enontekiö, in the far northwestern corner of Arctic Lapland in Finland.  Guesthouse Haltinmaa enjoys an ideal location in the heart of the village.

You can travel to Kilpisjärvi from two directions - from Finland or from Norway.

By flight to Kittilä in Finland or Tromso in Norway

The nearest airports are in Kittilä in Finland (KTT, 280 km / 173 miles) and in Tromso in Norway (170 km / 105 miles). Enontekiö Airport (ENF) (170 km / 105 miles) does not offer regularly scheduled flights until further notice.

A regularly scheduled airport taxi transfer from Kittilä Airport to Kilpisjärvi is available three times a week.. By bus from Rovaniemi in Finland

There is a regularly scheduled daily bus connection between Rovaniemi and Kilpisjärvi. The distance is 430 km / 267 miles. The bus route goes via Kittilä and Muonio. Please check the bus company Matkahuolto for schedules and prices.

By bus from Tromso in Norway

The Arctic Route offers a seasonal connection between Rovaniemi in Finland and Tromso in Norway with a stop in Kilpisjärvi.

By train to Kolari or Rovaniemi

The nearest train stations are located in Kolari  (270 km / 167 miles) and in Rovaniemi.(430 km / 267 miles). Please check the website of the Finnish State Railways (VR) for schedules and prices.

The overnight train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi connects with the bus to Kilpisjärvi. The train from Helsinki to Kolari is favored by visitors who wish to take their car along on the train's car-carrier.

By car along the Northern Lights Route

The village of Kilpisjärvi is located on E8 (European route system) or Finnish national route 21. This road is also known as the Northern Lights Route. There is ample free parking space at Guesthouse Haltinmaa.

There is a service station in the village as well as electric car charging points.
